Portuguese French toast : Rabanadas

I share with you today one of my favorite recipe. We call this recipe rabanadas is very similar to the popular french toast that everybody knows. It is a comforting reminder of my childhood. The great smell of cinnamon, honey and “vinho do porto”send by my mom and grandmother cooking for christmas. For those of you that love cinnamon you will not be disappointed, the creamy custard center contrasts deliciously with the cinnamon sugar crust of the bread…

For my alcoholic friends,  this recipe can be used with alcohol (vinho do porto). I prefer it with alcohol of course. The link below shows a recipe with wine.

6 servings

1 loaf french bread

2 cup milk

4 eggs

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

20 mins

1. slice the bread

2. set up two bowls one with milk another one with the eggs slightly beaten

3. dip the sliced bread first into the milk and then in the eggs

4. fry until golden brown on both sides

5 mix the sugar with the cinnamon and sprinkle on both sides

a video to guide you through this challenge (the recipe is a little different) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soljO7GSlos

Girlfriend opinion : Well….. to be clear she is not a recognized food critics and the fact that she does not like cinnamon may have change the way she thinks about my food sooooo this part of the article is censured to the well-being of everyone (mainly mine) ^^. We thank you for your comprehension. Peace!
